Kerrara was composed after Vincent Houdijk visited Schotland and found inspiration on the beautiful Island of Kerrara.
" After one of the performances of Kerrara someone from the audience contacted me to share a wonderful story about his aunt, who was living on Kerrara. An island in the Scottish Inner Hebrides, close to the town of Oban. When I visited the island in 2010 it had a population of only 30 people, and someone who got to hear my composition in The Netherlands knew someone from there. How unbelievably cool!!! "
The island is around 7 km (4 miles) long and around 2 km wide, and is separated from the mainland by the Sound of Kerrera, about 500 metres wide. Kerrara is a very serene and peaceful environment and the composition is a hommage the the island and its atmosphere.
In 2015 Vincent Houdijk recorded a version of Kerrara with his band VinnieVibes with Teus Nobel as guest soloist.
This version was recorded in 2016 with his trio TRIFID;
Vincent Houdijk - vibraphone & composition
Rik Cornelissen - accordeon
Maciej Domaradzki - double bass who played a magical solo on this track!
